Senator Heath graduated from Bremen High School and from Southern Tech with a BEET degree. He is self-employed as both an engineer and farmer with Design Specialists and B&S Farms. He served approximately 10 years on the West Georgia Regional Airport Authority.
Senator Heath and his wife Susan have two children, William and Sandy. William has been called to preach and Sandy has been called to teach. The Heaths attend the First Baptist Church of Bremen.
Senator Bill Heath was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2004 after having served in the Georgia House of Representatives. Today he serves as Chair of the Retirement Committee, Vice Chair of the Science and Technology Committee, a member of the Finance Committee, Appropriations Committee, Governmental Oversight Committee, Transportation Committee and the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. Within the Appropriations Committee are thirteen Subcommittees. Senator Heath serves as Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee and is a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee and Community Health Subcommittee.
In 2006, Governor Sonny Perdue recognized Senator Heath’s ability as a lawmaker by appointing him as Administration Floor Leader in the Senate. In 2007, Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Senator Heath to the MARTA Oversight Committee (MARTOC).
At the annual summit of the State and Rural Leaders Association, Senator Heath was elected president. SARL is a organization formed to deal exclusively with issues important to North America’s agricultural and rural areas.
Senator Heath serves as Vice-Chairman of the Labor and Economic Development committee of the National Conference of State Legislators. Additionally, Senator Heath has served as the Senate chair of the Sportsman’s caucus and is a regular participant at the National Assembly of Sportsman’s Caucus where members seek to share their knowledge and experiences in dealing with attacks or losses of areas to hunt and fish or on gun control.
