- Know when to expect bills.
- Keep personal information in a safe place.
- Only provide account numbers in person.
- Review your credit report from each of the three reporting agencies at least annually.
If you are a victim:
- Report the incident to the police and your bank(s).
- Visit http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft. While there, report the incident with the Federal Trade Commission.
- Contact the three Credit Bureaus.
- Monitor you mailbox carefully.
